In
another development in the Salman
Khan hit-and-run case, witnesses have identified Salman Khan as
the man who was driving the car on the day of the accident.
The
witnesses Manu Khan, Mohammed Kalim, Iqbal Pathan and Muslim Sheikh
were among the injured when Salman ran his car over them when they
were sleeping on a footpath near American Express Bakery on 28th
September, 2002. All of them have identified Salman Khan. Three more
witnesses are to be examined on 19th May.
According
to them, Salman
was high with liquor and was driving his Toyota land Cruiser that
day. When his car ran over them, he was caught by people who were
shouting `neechey utro` (get down). He got down and was held by the
people but another person, who also got down from the vehicle, said
he was a policeman and hence they released the actor who ran away
from the spot.
One
of the witnesses, Muslim Niyamat Sheikh (26) allegedly said that an
advocate called him up and offered him Rs. 5 lakh to change his
statement. He informed the police station about the call who later
identified that the number was registered in the name of Mukesh
Pandey, a High Court Lawyer.
However,
Pandey has denied of making any calls. Pandey is said to have been
instrumental in helping the victims, including Sheikh, to get
compensation. He also reportedly helped them open bank accounts and
stood guarantor for them.
The
re-trial that began on 5th December, 2013 has charged the Being Human
actor with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This can land
'Sallu Bhai' in jail for 10 years. Earlier he was tried for causing
death by negligence.
Salman
Khan appeared in Sessions Court, Bandra in jeans and blue striped
shirt for the retrial of his 2002 hit-and-run-case. He was
accompanied by his sisters -Alvira and Arpita.
