Top 10 ways Saas-Bahu TV Serials are destroying Indian society

Indian TV serials which are dominated by mundane 'Saas Bahu' sagas, are wrecking the very Indian society which they claim to represent, to glorify. The remote corners of country though untouched by the basic amneties such as clean water, have been seduced by the entertaining verve of television. And with such a wide range of influence, the saas bahu serials are doing nothing other than showing a depicting regressive ideals which are in reality receeding from annals of time. Lets take a look at 10 wats in which they are ruining our soceity.

10. Backward and regressive

The story lines which most of the Indian tv serials depict are backward and regressive in comparison to the reality. From the way the women are expected to submit, to the daily decsions everything shown in these serials, everything is in stark contrast to progress. This has an adverse effect especially on the rural women who instead of fighting against accept this age old social bondage.

9. All mother in laws are oppressive and cruel

The Indian mother-in-law are traditionally considered as strict and stern but they still don't come close to the cruel and oppressive image of every mother-in-law the tv serials depict. These serial producers completely fail to consider those 'saas' who completely support their 'bahus' and act like mother to them in real life.

8. Golden rule – Ideal women should suffer in silence

In almost every tv serial it is shown that the ideal bahu should endure her saas's abuse and torture in silence. This has a negative impact on the psyche of Indian women despite enduring worst fail to speak up as they are afraid to break out of the mould of an ideal women.

7. Appearance of Bahu

Though we are fully in support of following our culture and wearing traditional saree, but the outdated rule that the Bahu should always have her head fully covered with the 'pallu' is difficult to digest. It would have been good to see these serials propagating that if someone doesn't has her head covered, it is in no way a trespass against the culture.

6. Men are always superior

In the times when the gender related crimes are on serious, the tv serials should shoulder the responsibility to promote gender equality. But unfortunately, almost all the serials are still depicting the patriarchal society in which men will always remain superior. They are still showing the families in which word of men is a law.

5. Promoting the skin color bias

In majority of Tv dailys, it is depicted that the women with the fair skin tone are preferred over the those with darker one. To make the matters worse, the tv producers either directly or indirectly add the righteousness to such outdated ideals. It only gives rise to insecurity amongst girls who are not endowed with brighter skin tone.

4. Working women bad for culture

In the serials, its is usually depicted that a woman gives up on her professional career to appease her in laws. The age in which more and more women are joining the industrial sector, such ideals are obsolute and antiquated. And portrayal of such inept ideology only demotivates those women who aspire to do a job.

3. Women in western clothes are immoral

In wake of recent sexual assault cases, many politicians have blamed westernization for such crimes. And such claims have created a huge uproar, with people from many sectors slamming such ideas. But the society at large has failed to notice that tv serials are also in rather subtle way portraying westernization as immoral.

2. Extravagant marriages

The dowry system and the burden of opulent marriages is breaking the back of middle class. And the tv serials instead of leading society towards the right cause, is regularly showing marriages where the obscene amount of money is spent just for the sake of family pride.

1. Image of perfect Indian women

This is the the area where the Saas Bahu tv serials are doing the most damage. The projection of an ideal women who endures his mother in laws torture and overbearing husband in silence, is sending a wrong message to the society where women are already suffering from identical non sense. To stand up for your right and needs is shown as anti culture.

5 Most Irritating Things about Indian Television

Television viewing has changed over the last decade, many new things have arrived and people spend comparatively more time staring at the "Idiot box" but, that does not take away the fact that there are irritating things about it that become unbearable after a point.

Saas-Bahu serials
The classic drama of a dominating mother-in-law and an innocent daughter-in-law, that goes on for ages together. Saree clad women with makeup fighting over petty home issues and the overuse of glycerin for fake tears has made these serials go overboard with emotions. It has to be the most irritating thing on Indian television.

Matrimony channel
And if Saas-bahu daily soaps were not enough, Indian television now has a matrimony channel as well. Shagun TV has various shows that describe the marriage scenario in India. It talks about 'kundli' and ways to find a perfect partner.

Hindi News channels
'Braking News' is no more about reporting important events and incidents. Hindi news channels have sensationalized news by adding spice to it, only to generate more interest. Entertainment and Bollywood related news are focused more,

Spiritual channels
The innumerable channels in different languages that share 'gyaan' on holy things is just more than what one can take.

Namesake Music channels
The channels have more advertisements than music. Add to it the list of Top 10, 20, 30 and so on songs of the week, month, year. Where is the purpose of being a music channel lost?

Sherlyn Chopra alleges Kamasutra Director asked sexual favor, files FIR

The war of words between Kamasutra director Rupesh Paul and actress Sherlyn Chopra which was initially considered by many as a publicity gimmick to promote the movie, has turned ugly as Sherlyn has levelled some serious charges against director.

Recently, Rupesh had filed a legal suite against Sherlyn Chopra for slander and defamation against the controversial actress. He had also slammed her for unprofessional behavior and had sued her for 5 crores.

She also accused him of seeking sexual favors by blackmail, she said "During the shooting of the film, Mr. Paul had expressed his desire of wanting to have sex with me, and when I said to him that it was impossible as I was not at all interested in him sexually, he threatened to forfeit my balance remuneration, and to replace me in the film and to use my nude film footage as a blue/porn film in global commercial porn market, where according to him there is a huge demand for such film footage/moving visuals with Indian faces."

She further alleged that Rupesh had sent a vulgar and obscene email in which he threatened “to sell and peddle my nude film-footage in the international porn markets, particularly in the Gulf and European countries, besides the USA, which as per the contract of the film has been shot strictly for the features film, titled, "Kamasutra 3D", and not meant for any other purpose."

With this war between the duo which getting uglier and nastier with time, surely the biggest casualty will be their movie “Kamasutra 3D”.
