Directed by debutant K. Balakrishnan, Rummy is a Tamil romantic comedy, featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathrie, Inigo Prabhakaran and Aishwarya in the lead roles. The film is shot around Pudhukottai, Karaikudi and Thanjavur. With the backdrop of a village, the film is set in the 1990's. The lead actors play friends studying in a government college who face troubles due to love. The movie is about their friendship. It also has romance and humor. The title of the movie is said to be associated with the card game "Rummy" to signify thrill, suspense and anticipation.
