Yaariyan Movie review

Yaariyan is one of those movies which have been marketed as the new generation movie in which the debutante director Divya Khosla Kumar tries to pass distressing and appalling thoughts as ideologies of generation X.

Story Outline
A college in the hilly terrain of Sikkim is facing a threat of demolition as an Australian tycoon plans to buy the land. He wants to build a resort in college's place. He issues the ultimatum to the principal Jim Martin (Gulshan Grover) and just for the sake of story challenges him to take on Australians in a sports culture competition.

Actor performance
The star cast of the movie is entirely composed of new fresh faces who as expected deliver a amateurish performance. Most of them appear to be lost and distracted in the movie. Rakul Preet Singh is the only shining star in otherwise dull and drab affair.

Positive points
Maybe the item song “Sunny Sunny” featuring rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.

Negative Points
The movie is perfect example of trying to eat more than you can chew. The director tries to incorporate myriad concepts such as friendship, trust, patriotism, race attacks and love, to weave the plot of the movie, but the end product is woeful.

Verdict
It would be better to skip this movie. And, if you are too eager to go to cinema, then watch Naseeruddin Shah's drool worthy 'Shayari' and Madhuri Dixit's evergreen 'Ada' in “Dedh Ishqiya”.
