Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania movie review

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania movie review

The makers of “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” have marketed it as the modern generation's DDLJ. Keeping in mind the eternal appeal and charm of DDLJ, it could be bit too much for Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt's rom-com to reach the high standards set by the legendary movie. So, how well “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” stakes against the nostalgic aura of DDLJ, we will analyse in our movie review.

Plot
Kavya (Alia Bhatt) is a bubbly, extrovert Punjabi girl from Ambala who is going to marry Angad Bedi (Siddharth Shukla), a rich NRI selected by her family. She goes to Delhi to buy the best outfits for her marriage functions (especially Kareena wala designer lehenga), where she meets Humpty (Varun Dhawan), a carefree Delhi boy whose only pastime is 'vehlapanti'. As the cliche goes, they meet and fall in love with each other, but at the same time Angad enters frame to marry Kavya. Now, Humpty who has done absolutely nothing of worth in his life will have to tackle Angad who is perfect in almost every department. What follows next is story of “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania”.

Actor performance
Alia Bhatt has yet again delivered a wonderful performance. Over the past few months there have been generous amount of jokes about her IQ, but after another diverse performance none can doubt her acting credentials. Varun Dhawan in the role which is to some extent similar to one he played in “Main Tera Hero” is entertaining. He brings amazing energy to the scenes and is more close to Govinda then SRK in his act.

Siddharth Shukla also delivers a promising performance in his debut. He seamlessly slips into the role of a perfect NRI. He portrays the innocence with perfect combination of ruggedness. The supporting cast has also done a decent job, especially Ashutosh Rana who in role of Alia's strict father, is splendid.

Positive Points
The best thing about “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” is cute chemistry between Alia and Varun. Their love affair looks natural and is endearing. The comedy in some sequences is very good and the director doesn't go overboard with it.

Negative Points
Though, it is expected, but still the melodrama in “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” movie is bit irritating. The story is also bit predictive, but the entertainment factor of the movie does negate this weakness to some extent.

Verdict
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is a fun and emotional love story. It is entertaining and endearing in equal measures. You will find the movie worthy of your ticket money as long as you don't expect anything special.
