Indian-American boy to play Mowgli in Disney's 'Jungle Book'

Disney has selected 10 year old Indian American Neel Sethi to play the role of Mowgli in its live action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's famous classic tale “The Jungle Book”.

New York born Sethi will be only actor to appear onscreen in the project which will reprise the tale of a young boy raised by animals. The project will be a combination of live-action and animation.

Jon Favreau is directing the film, while Justin Marks has written script for the 3D movie which will be released on October 9, 2015. the movie producers have roped in Idris Elba to give voice to the villain Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley will voice beloved panther Bagheera, while Scarlett Johansson and Lupita Nyong'o are also in talks to lend their voice to other characters.

“Casting is the most important element of any film and finding the right kid to play Mowgli was imperative,” Favreau said in a statement. “Neel has tremendous talent and charisma. There is a lot riding on his little shoulders and I’m confident he can handle it.”

While, Casting director Sarah Finn described Sethi as embodying “the heart, humor, and daring of the character. He’s warm and accessible, yet also has an intelligence well beyond his years and impressed us all with his ability to hold his own in any situation. Even though he has no professional acting experience, his natural charisma and instincts jumped out at us.”
