Punjab 1984 Punjabi Movie review

Punjab 1984 Punjabi Movie review

Punjab 1984, a historical drama action movie directed by Anurag Singh is a poignant and powerful cinematic piece which is miles ahead of its slapstick contemporary comedy movies. The movie is produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Singh Sidhu under the banner of Vancouver based White Hill Production Inc.

The movie features Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, while Kirron Kher, Pavan Malhotra, Rana Ranbir and Sonam Bajwa are cast in the pivotal supporting roles. The script of the movie is co-written by Anurag Singh and Surmeet Maavi. Now, let's begin out in-depth analysis and movie review of this beautiful movie.

Punjab 1984 set against the background of 1984 riots that has scarred the psyche of the entire community. The movie focusses on the atrocities and injustice that the innocent youth suffered at the hand of administration.

The movie narrates the story of a mother and her missing son, the story which many families witnessed during the one of the darkest phase in the history of the community. The movie portrays the lives that were destroyed and torn apart at the hand of corrupt and greedy administration.

Anurag Singh who has made hit movies such as Jatt & Juliet, Jatt & Juliet 2 and Disco Singh, has shown a completely different, hidden facet of his film-making skills in this movie. The sensitivity and beauty with which he has made Punjab 1984 Movie touches your heart and makes us question why he doesn't work more on such projects.

Diljit Dosanjh like Anurag seems intent on breaking the stereotype that all singers are average actors. He has delivered a powerful, intense and remarkable performance. He expertly portrays the anger, defiance and disappointment of the Punjabi youth.

Kirron Kher shows her class and incredible acting skills with the portrayal of a mother who is desperately searching for her lost son. Sonam Bajwa has also delivered one of the finest performance by a Punjabi actress in the recent memory.

The music and songs of the movie also deserve a special mention for the hauntingly beautiful and poignant lyrics especially “Swaah Ban ke”. All in all, Punjab 1984 is a beautiful movie, a must watch for everyone. Let's hope it proves to be a revolution for the Punjabi cinema.
