Mastram movie review

Mastram is fictional autobiographical drama directed by debutante Akhilesh Jaiswal who had earlier written script of acclaimed movies such as 'Gangs Of Wasseypur'. Jaiswal has also teamed up with Gunjan Saxena to write the unique script of the movie.

Rahul Bagga is cast in the leading role, while Tara-Alisha Berry, Vinod Nahardih, Istiyak Khan and Akash will feature in supporting roles. Tara will be making her acting debut with this movie. In our movie review, let's analyse that whether this bold and unique movie, other than erotic quotient has anything worthwhile to appreciate.

Mastaram revolves around the literary ambitions of Rajaram who, a small town bank clerk who wants to become an accomplished writer. With the only support of his wife, he quits his job to focus on writing, but fails to find a publisher for his works.

Finally, one publisher accepts to publish his work but only on one condition that he should add masala to his story. He is unable to find-out what exactly masala is until one tea vendor shows him the spicier side of life. Thus, Mastram is born whose pornographic novels become bestsellers.

Over the past couple of years, the upcoming directors have embraced the experimental cinema and have made some bold and courageous choices. And, Jaiswal certainly is one of them as he dextrously exposes the hypocrisy of the society through the fictional tale of Mastaram movie. The script of the movie is well written and well executed onto the screen.

The star cast of the movie has also done a decent job. The pick of them is Rahul who has played the lead role with aplomb. He aptly portrays Raghuram's concerns, disappointments and conflicts with distinction. The only negative problem is that the intensity and quality of the movie dips in some sequences.

Sandhira movie review rating –3/5
