Rahul
and Dimpy Mahajan who started the trend of annoying Swayamwar
reality shows by marrying in 2010, have filed for divorce by mutual
consent.
The couple tried to skip the mandatory six month counselling period before divorce, by claiming that Dimpy was likely to go abroad in the near future. However, Family Court Judge IM Bohari rejected their plea by saying it wasn't a valid reason to give them a special preference.
According to the Indian divorce laws, the couples have to wait for six months, during which they undergo counselling to save their marriage. Only after counsellor's negative report divorce is granted.
Dimpy who had married Rahul on the show Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega, had accused Rahul of physically assaulting him just four months after their marriage. In media interviews she had said Rahul "punched and kicked her and dragged her by the hair." She left family home for short time before returning as Rahul had apparently apologised for his behavior.
This will be Rahul's second failed marriage after his childhood sweetheart Shweta had divorced him after accusing him of physical abuse.
