IIFA 2014: Visit Tampa Bay is working on cultural sensitivity webinars

Ahead of the 15th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), Visit Tampa Bay is producing a series of cultural sensitivity webinars.

President and CEO Santiago Corrada said that Visit Tampa Bay has attempted such a series of videos for the first time. It will target frontline hospitality employees and will be used as 'suggested viewing' for employees at the Tampa International Airport, front desk workers at area hotels, restaurant servers and banquet caterers as these employees would create the first impression.

Explaining the type of webinars with an example, he said "Some of the people coming to town for this event are going to have tremendous amount of luggage, we need those first impression personnel to not be surprised about that."

"And as many people coming to the event will attend multiple events each day and will have separate outfits for each event, there are going to be laundry issues to work out."

Some guests might even have dietary restrictions that servers would not be aware of, he said and so we need to be prepared in advance.

"We are known for being great hosts because we pay attention to detail."

The web training will start in early March as IIFA Weekend and Awards are scheduled from April 24-26, 2014.

Corrada said that the team has worked on training videos earlier but not on anything related to cultural sensitivity like it is now being made for IIFA
