Swapaanam Malayalam movie review



Malayalam film Swapaanam is directed by award-winning filmmaker Shaji N Karun. It is the first time a Malayalam movie had its first screening outside India. Film featuring versatile actor Jayaram in the lead role, had its global premiere at Mall of the Emirates during the Dubai International Film Festival. According to the movie review, Unni (Jayaram) is a popular celluloid hero and an accomplished actor is in lead role played the role of “chenda” artist (drummer) that he occasionally takes up in real life too and also, plays the instrument in various temples and for festivals. Nalini (Kadambari) is a Mohiniyattam dancer who dances to the beats of a chenda.

The story of this movie depicts the tragic life of Unni, a temple percussionist. Unni’s passion for the chenda (drum) takes him through forbidden territories and challenging traditional values. It is about the life of a Chenda artist in Kerela whose genius was never acknowledged when he was alive.

Unni and Nalini are attached to each other to the degree that let them go beyond their limits and transcends the devotion to their respective art forms. Movie reviews state that 150 renowned chenda players were the part of the cast and this dramatic movie won the hearts by its fabulous script and performance of the actor and actress.

Swapaanam was produced under the banner of Horizon Entertainment and the script is penned by Harikrishnan and Sajeev Pazhoor. The movie has nine songs and Sreevalsan J Menon composed music.
